No — not by default. All scanning, OCR, and AI processing run on your iPhone. The only outbound traffic is iCloud sync (your private CloudKit container) and, if you opt in, the cloud AI provider you chose using your own API key. The full data-flow diagram is on the Privacy page.

If you've enabled iCloud sync, your library reappears on your next iPhone the moment you sign in. If you haven't, the documents stayed local — which means they were never at risk of leaking, but they're also gone with the device. There is no Papera-side recovery path because there is no Papera server.

Yes. Settings → Providers. Drop in a key, validate, switch model per task. Keys are stored in iOS Keychain. You can fall back to Apple Foundation Models any time by toggling the provider off. Supported today: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini, custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints (e.g. local Ollama).

Apple's Vision framework recognises Vietnamese print at >95% accuracy on well-lit captures. Handwritten Vietnamese is harder — Papera flags it during processing so you know to verify. Diacritics on faded receipts are the most common failure case.

Yes. Save a prompt as a "recipe" — e.g. "List every action item, include the page number" — then apply it to any folder. The recipe runs sequentially on-device, or in parallel on the cloud provider you chose. Output streams into a single combined report you can copy or send to Shortcuts.

Later this year. The TestFlight beta is being used to harden the OCR + extract pipeline at scale; once we're happy, the same binary goes to the App Store. Beta users get the App Store version free, no migration needed.
